Constans Aurelianus. Eldest son of Constantine, High King of Britain. Murdered by Vortigern.

Constantine, High King of the Britons. Murdered by Vortigern.

Germanus (398-449). Christian priest, later made a saint, who fought for the Roman cause against the Pelagian heresy. Died peacefully in Ravenna.

Severa ferch Macsen (d.428) daughter of Magnus Maximus, the Roman general proclaimed emperor in Britain in 383. First wife of Vortigern. Died in childbirth.

Terorfor, knight of Glywysing. Not really dead, but tranformed into an ash tree in the forest of Deane.

ACTIVE IN 450:

Aelle (434-515). A great Saxon chieftain, holding vast territories in Sussex with his sons. Will be defeated by Arthur at Mount Badon in 496. Age 16 in 450.

Aetius. Tattered Roman governor of Gaul. Age 51 in 450.

Aldrien. King of Brittany. Age 44 in 450.

Ambrosius Aurelianus (430-471), scion of the leading Romano-British family in Britain, son of Constantine. AKA in Welsh as Emrys Wledig (the Imperator) or Emrys Benaur (the Golden-Headed). Brother to Uther and Constans. Age 20 in 450.

Anlach. King of Brycheiniog, father of Brychan. Age 58 in 450. Conqueror of eastern Ystrad, 451. Killed on Night of Long Knives.

Anthemius. Roman emperor in 469. Age 43 in 450.

Anwen Ursus ap Deane. Mother of the beautiful witch Vivienne; a very powerful and wrathful sorceress who can transform herself into a terrible great bear.

Brude. Lord of Bochriw'r Garn manor and is the only landed pagan knight in Glywysing.

Brychan. Son of Anlach, later king of Brycheiniog. 30 in 450.

Brydw ap Gwrtheyrn (b.428). Twin son of Vortigern by Severa. Age 22 in 450.

Budic I of Brittany. Cousin to Constantine, protector of Ambrosius and Uther until their majority. Age 69 in 450.

Cadeyrn Fendigaid (b.424). Second son of Vortigern by Severa. Age 26 in 450. Later King of Powys.

Cadoc. Prince of Glywyssing. 10 in 450.

Cladwyn. Knight, seneschal and master-at-arms of Llan Daff, Glywyssing. A good man.

Clovis. King and conqueror of Soissons; with this act the last Roman province in the West ceases to exist. Age 66 in 450.

Conomor. King of Dumnonia. Father of Geraint. Killed on Night of Long Knives. Age 50 in 450.

Cunedda. King of Gwynedd. The first of many Saxon foederati Vortigern invited to Britain, to form a buffer in northwest Wales. Age 43 in 450.

Elusdan. Lord of Llancaeach and (possibly) Cwmbran manor. He is the husband to Anwen, eldest of the Cwmbrans. A bad man.

Einion Yrth. Future King of Gwynedd. 2 in 450.

Gorlois. Duke of of Cornwall. Revolts against Ambrosius in 464. He will be slain by Uther Pendragon, who will then marry Gorlois' widow, Ygraine. Age 33 in 450.

Geraint Llyngesoc, future king of Dumnonia. British chieftan, who will be killed at the battle of Llongborth (Portsmouth) in 501. Father of Erbin. Age 6 in 450.

Glesig. Queen of Glywyssing. 31 in 450.

Glywys. King of Glywysing. Age 53 in 450.

Gwen. Exiled Princess of Ystrad. Milder and more ladylike than her sister Sorcha. She is much more traditional. 14 in 450.

Gwynllyw. Prince of Glywyssing. 32 in 450.

Hengest (427-490). Began his career as an invited guest of Vortigern as a buffer between the British and the Picts. His sons Horsa and Octha will join him in 452. They will then diversify into conquering Kent and surrounding areas in 458. Age 23 in 450.

Horsa. Son of Hengest, killed at Aylesford in 461.

Madrun ferch Gwerthefyr (b.423). Only daughter of Vortigern, and his unwilling bride in 451. Age 27 in 450.

Merlin: Minor magician who will first appear in 460, assisting Ambrosius' troops at the battle of Wallop. Age unknown.

Natanleod. British cheiftan-king, eventually defeated by Cerdric in 508. Age 2 in 450.

Nia. Exiled princess of Ystrad. A sweet little girl possessed of the "sight". Honest and gentle. She is intended for the Priestesshood. 8 in 450.

Octha. Son of Hengest.

Pasgen ap Gwrtheyrn (b.428). Twin son of Vortigern and Severa. Age 22 in 450. later King of Buellt & Gwerthrynion.

Rhiain. Princess of Glywyssing. Blind. 15 in 450.

Riothamus: Briton who leads the second migration to Brittany in 457. Later leads a 12,000 man British force against Euric, the Visigothic king. The bulk of the British force is wiped out in battle, and the survivors, including Riothamus, vanish and are never heard from again. Age 26 in 450.

Rowena of Kent. Daughter of Hengest and wife of Vortigern. Age 16 in 450.

Siobhan of Clan O'Lynn. Exiled Queen of Ystrad. Daughter of Brion O'Lynn former King of Dyfed before being overthrown and slain by Triffyn Farfog. 33 in 450.

Sorcha. Exiled Princess of Ystrad and, curiously, squire of her uncle Sir Tadc. 16 in 450.

Synwo. Exiled prince of Ystrad. A hopeless idiot, possibly cursed.

Tadc O'Lynn. Exiled knight of Ystrad. A fierce and honorable man devoted to his sister, her husband, and their children. He is their self-proclaimed protector. Orphaned at age 7, he was fostered in the court of King Tyngyr and although ostrisized for his "irishness" has been earning his renown as the finest knight of the King. 21 in 450.

Tingyr. Exiled King of Ystrad. A weak old man. 73 in 450.

Triffyn Farfog. Irish chieftan, Kingdom of Dyfed. Conqueror of western Ystrad, 451.

Uther Aurelianus Pendragon. Youngest son of Constantine, High King of Britain. High King after the murder of his brother Ambrosius in 471. Father of Arthur Pendragon. Age 16 in 450.

Vitalinus. Chief lieutenant of Vortigern. Age 35 in 450.

Vivienne ap Deane. Beautiful witch with a long memory.

Vortigern (401-457), Over-king, murderer, megalomaniacal deviant and brutal tyrant. AKA Gwidol Vortigern, Vortigern of the Gewissi. Age 49 in 450.

Vortimer Fendigaid (b.421). Eldest son of Vortigern and King of Gwent, near Gloucester. Will assume command of Vortigern's pro-Pelagian empire in 459. AKA Vortimer the Blessed. Age 29 in 450.

Aesc. Son of Hengest. Will rule Kent for 34 years, until 524.

Aircol Lawhir. Future King of Dyfed.

Arthur (465-542) born to Uther Pendragon and Ygraine of Cornwall. Ain his day, he will be a significant war leader fighting for his father.

Budic. Breton prince who seeks refuge at the court of Aircol Lawhir.

Cerdric (476-534). Saxon warlord. Founds Wessex in 519.

Cissa. Son of Aelle. Saxon warlord, but intermarriage and fat times will diminish his effectiveness.

Cynric. Son of Cerdric. Saxon warlord who assumes control of Wessex in 534.

Faustus ap Gwrtheyrn (b.456). The only child of Vortigern and Rowena. Vortigern's youngest son. Later Bishop of Riez.

Maelgwn. Son of King Cadwallon Lawhir of Gwynedd. Murders his uncle, King Owain Danwyn of Rhos, and re-unites the two kingdoms.

Maeliaw. King of Brittany.

Owain Danwyn of Rhos. Murdered by Maelgwyn.

Rivod. Prince and later King of Brittany after murdering his brother
