Supporting Characters
The Crew
Sebastian "Seb" Masters
Seb was never one for back breaking labor. He was far too pretty and smart for his talents to be wasted on grunt work, so when he enlisted he managed to secure himself a position as loadmaster. Managing numbers, moving goods and dealing with port authorities was more his sort of thing. He didn't count on actually having to be anywhere close to where real bullets were flying. When his ship went down during a hot drop on Hera he thought he was going to die, and nearly would have if not for Sunny Partridge.
Sunny maybe isn't the best name, since he's not the brightest guy in the 'verse, but he means well, even if his shepherding is a little over the top sometimes. In any case, Seb's all brains and looks, so he needs some muscle in this outfit.
After the War Seb started rounding up some of his old buddies to take advantage of the "opportunities" that came with being on the winning side. He's seen a lot of the 'verse and has contacts in most ports. He knows the dupes and knows the players, and he knows how to work both of them.
No one knows for sure how Seb managed to acquire the old "Flying Ox" vessel that he has. It's ancient, but it still runs solid. He claims he inherited it from his dad.

Egbert "Sunny" Partridge
Egbert "Sunny" Partridge. He's an enormous pile of bald muscle but during the last drop on Hera he promised God that if he made it out alive he'd do His work, four-square. So he's a Shepherd now, and not super interested in reliving the bad old days. That said, the orphanage needs a new swimming pool and all...
Sunny helps run St. Lucy's orphanage on Lilac with hs sister Kate. They are in a bad spot - he needs to buy off the mortgage or they'll be run out by Blue Sun developers who want to build a bottling plant. Egbert'll need to keep sending chunks of cash back home until he makes the scratch to buy it off. He loves three things in this world - children, his sister, and Seb Masters. He's happy to play the fool around Seb, doing his best to keep his friend out of trouble when he can.

Jubal R. Lee
Jubal R. Lee- called "Jellybean" by his friends- has been out of Alliance service for a few years now, trying to make ends meet. He was doing well enough until his younger sister came down with some strange malady that only a few Alliance hospitals know how to treat. So, he's looking to pull in some big pay to keep the treatment coming for his sister.
The Alliance has made a deal with Jubal--picking up criminals in exchange for keeping his sister on the necessary drug treatments. He's a well-built, gun-toting sort--not a psycho killing machine, but good at what he does and driven to get it done. His crew know him to be a good-hearted army boy in a rough place, with a habit of drinking and carousing, but nothing to unhealthy excess.

What the crew doesn't know is that she's a would-be spy for Alliance paymasters, keeping tabs on the crew. Why that is, nobody can guess.

The Ship
the Eli Cunningham, an 80-04 "Flying Ox"

The Eli Cunningham is a tired old hauler with a name so new the paint has yet to dry on her hull. Previously owned by Ghazan Gabriel, the ship was sold to Seb Masters for 10,000 CR. Oddly, the exchange of funds failed just after Seb took possession of the ship, roughly 6 months ago.
Since her new captain is making little use of her large cargo space, much of the ship appears dusty and unused. Her passenger berths have been stripped down and roughly reconfigured into holding cells, for that glorious day when the crew actually binds a captive.
All in all, the Eli Cunningham has seen better days, and shows it's wear in the life support systems (it's always a bit too cold when plying the Black, for example) and it's heavier-than-usual fuel consumption. In addition, although many of it's parts are well-worn originals, much of the ship requires regular refitting, and spare parts (both usable and broken) litter the unused areas of the ship.
Ship Class Information
Manufactured by Lu Se Jiang (Green River) shipping, the Flying Ox was designed as a tramp freighter with enough brute force and ignorance to get her across the 'Verse in short order carrying large bulk cargoes. Although designed primarily for cargo hauling, the ship has a number of features intended for versatility. In practice, however, the passenger berths were poorly located and the "Observatory" proved to be less than functional. Such facts led to a confused identity for the ship, and a decline in use.
None can doubt her "grunt" though. Two oversized reaction drives and a hefty pulse engine means that on full burn a Flying Ox leaves similar ships in her class standing. These engines also provide a lot of heavy lifting and thrust, sacrificing maneuverability for power. Despite overheating issues and a reputation for being fuel hungry, the ship's reliability and sturdiness have won her a lot of supporters.

Lorelei Chu - A doxie based out of Eavesdown Docks who was hired to accompany him aboard the Eli Cunningham; fortunately, she knows a thing or two about first aid as well.
Ghazan Gabriel - A powerful man who originally owned the ship now called the Eli Cunningham. He is owed a great deal of money by Seb Masters, and would like to talk to him.
