J. Kessel (or "Castle", as he is not proud of his German heritage), is a hard drinking longshoreman in Brooklyn. Gruff and dour, he has sandy hair and is handsome and muscular. He is unmarried but has family in Texas. Kessel has participated in several missions. His DET66 career took a strange turn when he was abducted by extradimensional beings in Greenland, who amputated both his legs below the knee. Ever resourceful, Kessel managed to squeeze himself into an alien bugsuit, which became a critical component in the escape of himself and his team. The suit was abandoned in Iglulaq bay, but later recovered.
Kessel has developed a bad alcohol habit and stomped his way through Sicily and Southern Italy with DET-66/SG, where he is known ironically as "Rook".
