AFTER-ACTION REPORT

"It was difficult to even look upon this wretched abomination.  I knew it to be no creature of God's world, but rather an unholy evil that must be destroyed..." -Wolf Jemnitz

In September of 1943, agents of both the conventional and "special" D66 groups took part in Operation: Avalanche, the assault on Italy. This was a two-pronged assault: while D66/SG moved with the 505th PIR to assist the 36th Div. In taking the beach at Paestrum, a team under the command of Major Muzetti infiltrated Rome in order to extract defecting German agents. As usual, the SG met with great resistance on the beach, but was able to push the assault forward. The enigmatic agent  Kilroy was encountered again, this time amidst the broken remains of the 36th. In addition, elements of Germany's own "extranormal" division (note: ref. SKVS) were on the field (see refs.  Geist and Asvard).

The covert team under Muzetti, including agents Svoboda, Cranfield, & Lubelsky, succeeded in getting inside Rome during the confusion following Italian King Emmanuel III's surrender of Italy. They succeeded in contacting Konrad Steidel, commander of the AsA. He led them to a church where other defecting agents were waiting (see ref. Paperclip agents Gunsche, Danor, Jemnitz, Dietrich), along with MIA agent Mendel Meyer. Unfortunately, Meyer turned out to be an unwitting tool of Charles Westcote-Kern, and the victim/host of an unholy horror. The arrival of this creature led to Meyer's death and the loss of several other agents, including Svoboda and Gunsche. The remaining team and defectors fled Rome and reconnected with Allied forces to the south.
