AFTER-ACTION REPORT
"Oh my sweet lord... that m-monkey.. has a gun."
-- Bradford Bedford-Mitchell
In May of 1942, two seperate teams of D66 agents were dispatched to the Peten Rainforest area of Guatemala. The first team (ref. Corliss, Doon-Green, & Cortez) were to rendezvous with CIAA agents and investigate the disappearance of archaeologists around the Mayan dig of Tikal. When that team failed to report in, a recovery operation was launched (ref. Muzetti, Lubelsky, Kieyoomia) including new recruit Bradford Bedford-Mitchell, a Mayan scholar.
They found a hidden temple in the rainforest and encountered a series of misshapen horrors such as evil-looking monkeys, jaguar-men, and a snake-sun creature with serpents for arms. They later discovered that these monsters were what had become of many of the missing people. After further exploration, the recovery team found a chamber with a "smoky-mirrored plane" that appeared to be a dimensional gate. Ancient apparatus of extraordinary design were in operation, including lightning-charged batteries and a stone time-keeping wheel which activated the gate. In addition, the team found a large crystalline skull that reportedly acted as an energy-focus to open the portal.
In the end, the recovery team found Corliss alive but psychologically fragile. Doon-Green was found apparently dead, but was "miraculously" revived to escape with the team. John Cortez is clearly mad, and has been contained in the New York State Lunatic Asylum for the time being. All of these agents, and their experiences, will require further analysis by agency specialists. What little that remained of the temple site after the implosion has been cleansed and the locals have been given the official stories.
It should be noted that N. Rockefeller of the CIAA is displeased with his missing agents and the lack of information he's been given, and is filing formal complaints with the president.
