RE: SEA WINDOW

This crossed my desk and I forward it as possibly being relevant to SEA WINDOW.

A German informant working for Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG managed to supply his British intelligence contact with two photographs of a new aircraft of unknown type, designated FW-X. The informant, a reliable aeronautical engineer, indicated that the photos were taken on the occasion of a demonstration flight at the Focke-Wulf facility in Bremen before Reichsmarshal Goering and other officials. He describes the performance of the FW-X as "incredible", with the ability to hover and make right-angle turns in flight. It is known that the craft is in production at the Dora facility in the Harz mountains under very tight security. Recent ENIGMA transmissions indicate that a large shipment of FW-X components or aircraft modular sections had been delivered to Keil for loading aboard the U-490, suggesting a possible naval reconnaissance role for the aircraft.

In photograph two, the clearer of the pair, several details are apparent. First, the craft has a lenticular cross-section, with a conventional tail but no ailerons. The large, circular center section is clearly marked in contrasting colors, indicating a hazard of some sort - perhaps a vertically oriented jet engine or ducted fan. Photograph one shows conventional landing gear. Finally, in both photographs, a forward-projecting pod is clearly visible - probably the cockpit.
