AFTER-ACTION REPORT
On July 17, 1944, An odd coincidence occurred- undercover agents aboard the b-17 "Fatbaby" (see ref. Unkelsby and Hoffman) reported seeing a kind of "living fire" in the bomb bay, which forced them to jettison the payload short of target. At the same time, in California, a massive explosion occurred at the Port Chicago pier in San Francisco. Agency associate Lamar Ribout was there, and reported seeing fire falling from the sky and later two military men discussing how the "experiment" had gone. D66 agents initiated an investigation of these unusual phenomenon, and found it to be related to an experimental weapon being researched at Los Alamos. According to high-level sources, the Manhattan project wasn't going as well or as quickly as expected, and so alternatives were being investigated, possibly using occult forces powered by people. Potentially more powerful than the atomics, the project is somehow related to both the aged Gen. Pershing (known to have worked with Westcote-Kern) and Everett Jamison (the pseudonym of the younger Kern). Although the agents were ordered to stop their investigation, they attempted to leave some doubt in the mind of Jamison, and encouraged him to channel information to D66 whenever possible.
