FROM: MAJ WHITEHALL, WALTER REED ARMY MEDICAL CENTER The patient presented with intercranial damage resulting from combat. The patient is attentive and functions normally; Rand-Bergomon scores are in the nintieth percentile and motor function is unimpaired. Physical assessment indicated a line of cauterization inconsistent with field surgery @1cm medial encircling the entire skull. A metallic shunt or tube has been installed in the upper rear right quadrant of the cranium; X-rays indicate this shunt in penetrative. The shunt serves no medical function. Patient's left orbit has been surgically modified to accomodate a 7 cm disc of unknown function that has replaced the left eye, orbital fundus, and optic nerve. Craniofacial X-rays indicate the pateint's brain has been entirely removed. It is assumed this was accomplished through removal of the upper cranium, which shows evidence of same. The braincase has been filled with a round metal object that appears to take the role of the human brain. Patient reports no loss of memory or cognition. Despite including at least three medical impossibilities, the above assessment is based on empirical facts, readily observable either directly or diagnostically through non-invasive means. The high degree of strangeness in this case makes any conclusions suspect. I would like to engage the subject in a series of investigations with a select team of medical professionals; my request was sent under seperate cover. Thank you for referring this patient to me.
